- Thermal Throttling & Controller Disconnection (PC801): The PC801 is a blisteringly fast Gen 4 drive, but it generates immense heat. If the thermal pads inside an ASUS ROG or TUF laptop degrade or misalign, the drive will quickly exceed 75°C under heavy gaming loads. To prevent melting, the drive will heavily throttle performance, or in severe cases, drop off the PCIe bus entirely, triggering a Windows Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with a "Whea_Uncorrectable_Error."
- "Device Missing" on Cold Boots (PC711 / BC711): A common quirk with older SK hynix OEM drives involves a failure in the low-power sleep state protocol (APST). When waking the ASUS laptop from sleep or turning it on from a completely cold state, the drive fails to initialize fast enough. The laptop BIOS reports that no bootable device is found, requiring a hard hard-reboot (holding the power button) to force detection.

SK hynix drives are highly efficient, but they exhibit distinct failure patterns, especially under the demanding thermal environments of ASUS gaming laptops.
