- ASUS ROG Ally Compatibility Failures (PC SN740): The SN740 is a tiny 2230-sized M.2 drive widely used in handhelds like the ROG Ally and thin ZenBooks. Because it is DRAM-less and relies heavily on Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology, it is highly sensitive to system RAM instabilities. If the system RAM experiences a minor hiccup, the drive can drop its translation tables, leading to instant OS crashes and corrupted file systems.
- S.M.A.R.T. Attribute 05 / BF Explosions (PC SN530): The entry-tier SN530 frequently reports a sudden, massive accumulation of reallocated sectors or "unsafe shutdowns." Even if the laptop was shut down correctly, a handshake failure between the ASUS motherboard firmware and the Western Digital controller logs a critical error, eventually forcing Windows to mark the drive as failing.
- NAND Degradation & Read-Only Locking (SanDisk X600): Found in older 2.5-inch or SATA M.2 configurations, these drives utilize aging SanDisk flash TLC memory. Once the write endurance threshold is crossed, or if the drive suffers a sudden power loss, it permanently locks itself into write-protected mode. You can read your data to back it up, but you cannot delete, change, or install anything new.
